FORCAST 9.5 Letter from the Editor

When we started putting this issue togather, we hd no idea that it was going to turn out the way it did. First, the delay in getting this issue out gave us added time to reflect on the content and secondly, as you scan through this copy, you will understand why almost 60% of this issue is devoted to our past.

Clearly, the Fellowship of the Wind, which is a compulation of all the letters you the readers have sent us over the years, is most deserving of the space and the focus of our 10 year cellebration. While the pages are many. We really had to curtail our fancy in order to contain it all in the space it stands. The letters were all compelling and moving to us. They brought back fond memories and affirmations for an incredible experience. A fellowship imbedded in many time capsules of exchanged perspective that stoked our flame and added spicece.

American Windsurfer has always had a unspoken force behind its creation and its enduring presence. As we pour over these letters, it was clear that this invisible force stems from the fundamental focus on the people, the passion and the desire to perpetuate and prolifirate. I am happy to report: Time has proven us right, that time has been kind to us and the time has come to move on.

This issues, with all the many happy memories that we’ve captured is a turning point. We, like you, must find our new path. A new and fresh vision that can sustain our interest and define our existance. The magazine, like all of us, must take risks and create opportunities for growth and refinement. Without this, we will succumb to a fate of mediocrity.

Part of this process of change is governed by what some call fate, others call choices. However the their name may be, I believe they are all part of a grander destiny where this sport that we so covet—quite elequently illustrate its meaning.

Life has many forces, some we recreate in, some we don’t even know about. Mix this with our ability to make choices and the integrity of our governing priciples (which metaphorically can point to the various instruments or gears we acquire), become part of this fabric of change.

If I knew what this magazine will be like in the next year, the next decade, I would be fooling you. We made a choice to be in this flow. The fact we don’t know what the future will holds is a mysteries in life. But how we choose to handle this mystery and how we determine or visualize our future has an impact on the mystery is the place where everything begins. This becomes a simple conviction to keep compnay along the way.

You could say, like the movie, we are headed into the darkness. Into a land of known uncertainty. The Fellowship of the Wind is the binding force that we know for certain. And with every pause, such as this, we are reminded that we are not alone. This journey, this quest is universal. It is the eternal expansion of the our universe.

The lingering force that has sustained the magazine for the past decade is this expansion. I believe it will sustain and guide us for the next decade and for me, beyond the cycle of time. As contrived as it sound, I am absolutely sure that there is no other way to attain excellence, purity and the ability to discover wonders far beyond our ability and perspective.

This quest for almost everything including the wind. The invisible wind. Has some drawbacks. One of them I am sure you’ve noticed, is our inability to deliver the magazine on any predictable or scheduled time. We will certainly try to improve on this. On the other hand, we like to think that each issue, where we’ve cut so many hundred of trees and consummed so much energy, must be deserving of its consumption and is worthy. We’ve maintained this and paid the price by loosing some advertisers and readers. But we won’t short change you because when you subscribe to us, we promise 6 issues.
