PRESS RELEASE JULY 23, 1999
INTERNATIONAL VIDEO TO BE MADE AT EQUIPMENT TEST IN MAUI
AMERICAN WINDSURFER MAGAZINE is pleased to announce that its 2000 Equipment Test, to be conducted this October on the island of Maui, will now be complemented by a feature video. Chilli Videos, the acclaimed video production branch of the Professional Windsurfing Association (PWA), will be producing the video and distributing it around the world. The London-based company has produced a string of internationally acclaimed windsurfing videos: including "Retuned," "Un-cut," "Namotu," "The Quest," "world-windsurfing.com" and "The Homecoming."
"We are super-stoked to be hooking up with AMERICAN WINDSURFER for what we see as a ground-breaking new venture into video," said Sandy Stevenson, marketing director for Chilli Videos. "Showcasing the year's new equipment is a fascinating and challenging opportunity for Chilli and one we relish."
"We are naturally very excited about the addition of a video to chronicle our equipment test," said AMERICAN WINDSURFER publisher John Chao, "The Maui test is made for it. We'll have all the latest equipment, to be sailed by dozens of readers--the consumers--some of the country's most prominent retailers and our own hired-gun professionals...all gathered in one of the best and most beautiful windsurfing spots in the world."
This year, besides the 50 guest testers, nine top retailers will participate: Jim DeSilva from CanAm Sailcraft in Boston; Platt and Nancy Johnson from Island Sports in Newport, Rhode Island; Tom Lloyd from Boardsports in San Francisco; Steve Gates from Big Winds in Hood River; Gary Stone from Isthmus Sailboards in Madison, WI; Jackie Butzen from Windward Sports in Chicago; Steve Gottlieb from Sandy Point Progressive Sports in Daytona Beach, FL; and Tim Quarles from Pacific Boarder in Vancouver, Canada.
With five weeks in Maui, lodged at Club Paradise on the water, it will be the perfect windsurfing party to launch the new millennium. And if you can't be there, now you can catch the fun on a video that will be released to the world in February of 2000! |
