Ken Winner
Ken was born in Washington DC on May 4, 1955 and grew up mostly in the
Annapolis, MD area. Currently he has a wife and two
daughters in White Salmon, WA (near Hood River in the Gorge).
Ken started windsurfing in 1975 and has the following windsurfing honors to his
credit:
- Won national championships in one or more disciplines and sometimes overall
in Î76, Î77, Î78, Î79, Î80, Î81 and, most recently, in '97.
- Won world championships in Î77, Î80, Î81.
- Placed 2nd in the pro World Cup in Î83 and Î84.
- Retired from pro racing after placing 4th overall in Î86.
- Started racing again, casually this time, in 1992.
- Worked in product development for BIC Sport (1979 -1989) and North Sails
(1985 - 1987). Designed some best-selling boards.
- Instrumental in the development of modern equipment. Most boards feature
components or design elements that Iâve helped develop.
- Instrumental in developing windsurfing techniques that are now widely used.
- Designed the Mistral WindGlider, currently the biggest-selling sailing craft
in the world.
