TRANS-ATLANTIC WINDSURFERS ARRIVE IN WEYMOUTH: Monday SEPTEMBER 21, 1998

After windsurfing over 2,000 miles of the world most inhospitable ocean, thirteen intrepid Transat-sailors ran up the Weymouth beach today to mark the end of their epic adventure.

Robert Territehau of the Liberty Team was the first to cross the finish line on the packed Weymouth sea front at 4.30pm this afternoon, winning the last stage of the race and lifting the TransAtlantic Windsurf Race-98 Trophy. He was followed home by fellow PWA Professional, Micah Buzianis, of the Greek team and the sole British sailor, Jason Gilbert from Worthing, West Sussex, representing the European Team.

All four of the American team members made their way to the beach. Even though the team came in a respectable fourth out of four teams, the members were thrilled about their accomplishments and hugged and rolled with each other on the beach. David Weiss's wife Mary Jane flew to England and geeted her husband and celebrated their 19 year aniversary by renewing their vows that evening on board the KK.

After the landing on the beach, the team celebrated on the KK. Robert Territehau completed his victory by jumping off of the 120 feet high radio tower of the KK into the hard water. The Mayor of Weymouth and a host of guests came on board for dinner and a bit of the wild celebration. Talks already have been made about future events and many participants expressing the desire to do it again. For this team of American Windsurfer magazine reporters, the trip has been one of the most extraordionary events ever covered. Every one of us would do it again in a heart beat. Look for the complete story and photographs in the next issue of AW due out in early December.
