BOARD CATEGORIES:
Wave boards <85 liters—These boards are designated by the manufacturer for use in waves, but many find their way to other high wind sailing spots such as The Gorge.

Freestyle boards/Wave boards >85 liters—These boards are brought together because they have similar characteristics and intended uses. These boards will be tested in lighter wind for all-round sailablitity as well as for freestyle tricks and waverding.

Freeride boards/Race boards—While boards in this category include the more recreational Freeride boards (formerly known as slalom) together with the more dedicated Race boards they are all primarily intended for speed and use in flat water.

SAIL CATEGORIES:
Wave sails—These sails are specifically designated by the manufacturers for use in waves. However, due to the popularity of these sails in non-wave locations they will be tested for all-round sailability too. Sails in this category will typically have four or five battens. No sail in this category has camber inducers.

Freeride/Freestyle sails—These may be considered all-around sails. While not specifically designed for use in waves or for speed these sails cross over into both classifications. Testers will be looking at this category for general sailablity and for control during freestyle tricks. No sail in this category has camber inducers.

Freerace/Race sails—These sails are designed primarily for speed. Freerace sails have no camber inducers and are considered appropriate for most sailors who like going fast. Race sails all have camber inducers and are generally intended for serious speedsters.
