Pork Butts Only $1.09 Per Pound.
"Safeway Opens In Kihei." This was the big news the week we arrived in Maui. In fact in the local newspaper the story engulfed the entire front page. That may be front-page news this week, in this laid-back tropical isle, but as the new 2001 windsurfing equipment arrives at the American Windsurfer test site by truckloads the news here is going to get a lot hotter.

After travelling for as many as 30 hours for some test team members, this year's staff is truly an international group. They come equipped to sail, but they also brough computers, tools, cameras and a long list of other items both personal and professional. No doubt these team members' names will crop up in future updates, but you can get a good glimpse of who they are in our Staff Testers and Pro Testers sections.
Kihei, where the supermarket is to open, is a town about ten miles south of Club Paradise. For three years, Club Paradise has been considered the Maui home of American Windsurfer and the estate has again been made available for the 2001 test by its owner Bill Fleischer. This house and its grounds is truly a windsurfer's Paradise on Maui. The spectacular view that reaches into the Pacific Ocean awakens our senses every working day.
Speaking of work, I need to help the team prepare the newly-arrived boards and sails. Each item is meticulously weighed and measured. Photographs are then taken and the sails rigged and fins attached to the boards. I have just a few minutes more to finish reading the paper "Pork Butts only $1.09 at the Ooka grocery store" and to think I almost missed the ad on page three!
