TAWR2000 PRESS RELEASE
Five hundred years after the Portuguese landed in Brazil, windsurfers will revive the Age of Discovery by windsurfing across the Atlantic. From Portugal to the Gran Canaries, then from the Grand Canaries to Brazil, a month-long challenge that will begin on March 9th 2000.
The United States will have the opportunity to enter two teams competing in the event. Each team will consist of 8 sailors dividing the trip into two legs with 4 racers per leg.
The teams will each have one title sponsor and up to six event sponsors. As in auto racing, the team's equipment: sails, boards, safety boat and uniforms will reflect the sponsors involvement.
American Windsurfer Magazine is the organizing effort behind the USA Teams. To assure exceptional coverage, all promotional, editorial, and broadcast efforts will all be handled and coordinated by the magazine's TAWR2000 Organizing Team.
The stakes are high...so be careful what you wish for.

TAWR98 THE FIRST
TRANSATLANTIC WINDSURF RACE
St. John's Newfoundland to Weymouth, England
September 10-20, 1998
The first TransAtlantic Windsurf Race was staged from Canada to England in the fall of 1998. This event successfully tested the concept of an open ocean windsurf race. The resulting reaction within the global community of windsurfers was resounding affirmations.
Footage of the event was widely broadcasted in a wide rage of TV programs that included: Hard Copy, Real TV and even shown as in-flight airline entertainment. An hour long commercial video has been distributed and sold world-wide.
American Windsurfer Magazine was one of three organizing members that helped create the first TAWR event. During the crossing, it feed live reports and photographs to tens of thousands Internet viewers world-wide and subsequently, the magazine devoted 22 pages to the event.

Cost for the event is $8,000 per sailor per leg. There will be 2 legs Portugal-Gran Canarie as leg one and Gan Canaries to Brazil as leg two. There is a training session to be held at the Test 2000 in Maui, those interested should act fast as space is limited.
